C.A.R. Design Studio Inc. was formed by Craig A. Rietze in 2011 and provides full architectural design services for custom residential projects in the GTA and surrounding area.

Craig began his career in architecture in 1997, and prior to forming C.A.R. Design Studio, worked in various disciplines in the architectural field with a wide range of experience.

From the design of high-end custom renovations and new homes in some of Toronto’s most upscale neighbourhoods, to working as a Senior Project Manager in Architectural Design Control overseeing community and streetscape design, Craig’s career experience provides for a comprehensive approach to the design process. 

C.A.R. Design Studio has experience with a variety of architectural design styles, and while appreciating strong modern design, Craig has an affinity for Craftsman and Cape Cod design influences which allow for more creativity and articulation in the overall design. "These styles incorporate that mix of different materials - and material colour - that provide bold and visually interesting elements, that you don't often get in some more formal architectural styles".

When working with more classical architectural styles, Craig believes that "often, it's not about adding details, but simplifying the overall design and letting the materials and colours work for you. I think too often people mistake 'detail' for design, and it can create visual clutter, especially when the proportions aren't exact". He adds, that his career in Architectural Design Control helped refine his design skills and allowed him to "develop a critical eye" for the small details through the design review of new residential and commercial developments. "Scale and proper proportions, along with the right use of materials - both interior and exterior - are the base for the vernacular of the design, and that through the details, these elements are tied together to ensure that the vision is true and the clients see beyond what they expected".
